A eurasian eagle owl calling. Study based on video I took last week at Wildpark Poing, close to Munich where I live. Trying to develop a new field sketching method, combining sepia, black and grey fineliners

It has been a rainy week and wasn`t possible to go outdoors for several days. The weather forecast wasn`t very promising either, but I decided to challenge my luck and didn`t regret it. Two of the owlets were sitiing together up on the tree ,looking with curious eyes to me .I was glad to be able to finish this study despite the light rain.

In the meantime I managed to complete one more illustration for the new European breeding bird atlas EBBA 2.An Eleonora`s falcon pair of both colour phases painted using Acryla Gouache. Actually I was planning to do a couple a Tawny owl youngster studies, but since they were hiding themselves on the top of the trees, I decided to leave the park when the female suddenly appeared and landed close tto the nest hole. I never had the chance before to study the owl sitting in the open, and tried to do my best within the 40 minutes it stayed there.Attached also one more study of an other owl called " Martin", I managed to finish somewhat later. Both have been sketched using various fineliners

Thanks to a message of a friend I`ve got early in the morning yesterday , I was able to drive to the Nymphenburg park and paint my first Tawny owlet from life in watercolours. Hope to go back soon for more studies...

My first ever life study of a Lanner falcon(falconry bird) in Wildpark Poing. I`m not sure about the subspecies since falconers use to crossbreed their birds.Watercolours
